Oh, the weather outside was frightful! Could we “Go the Distance”? Going the Distance was the theme our youth renewal weekend. Originally that theme was supposed to reflect the Olympics. Going the distance became much more about the trip to Murfreesboro and home again. We made it to Murfreesboro, but would we find “finish line faith” or merely stroll around looking for entertainment? more…
This year, at District Leadership Training, our youth met with other youth groups to learn and grow, and to meet new friends. We were invited to share the stories of our youth group, our mission trips, our mini missions, our potato bars, and our Sunday night meetings. Dr. Jack Radcliffe, the presenter before us, had spoken of all the things a youth group needs to flourish. more…

We are beginning a new year a HBUMC and there is a lot of terrific things going on within our congregation. With so many projects, we are changing from a quarterly meeting to bi-monthly meetings for the council. We will meet Sunday’s after worship as we have in the past. I have set up the dates for the year and hope this works for all. Please mark your calendars for: January 18; March 15; May 17; July 19 Council Retreat; September 20; and November 15.
I am looking forward to the year ahead and working with each of you. Thanks to each of you for your willingness to serve, it is appreciated. God Bless and Happy New Year Hickory Bend!

Reminder to council members . . there will be a council meeting after worship on Sunday, November 9th. Please mark your calendars to be there. This should be the final meeting of the 2008 council.
Please have your committee reports prepared so we can accomplish as much as possible in the least amount of time. I know many of you have lots of activities going on. Let me know if you have any questions.
